Women across Jamaica have increased their demand for more protection. This follows the recent issues of gender-based violence pronounce in the media.
This has left many women feeling unprotected within the streets and spurring the government to reconsider legalizing mace.
Meanwhile, South West St. Andrew Member of Parliament, the Opposition’s Dr. Angela Brown-Burke says while the Government’s debating the legalization of these self-defense products, women should be innovative.
However, some women are adamant mace alone is not enough.
Additionally, Dr. Brown-Burke says women can apply for firearms, a process she believes to be unbiased.
She says the society has a violent culture that needs to be tackled.
She says the Government, Justices of Peace, the Church and the police should partner and strategically put an end to this widespread violence.
