A gunman was shot and killed in Clarendon while attempting to rob a taxi operator and his passenger on Wednesday, April 24. Reports indicate that at 8:15 Wednesday evening, a taxi driver operating 19 miles from Clarendon picked up the perpetrator while transporting another passenger. At some point during the ride, a tussle ensued as the now-deceased aggressor demanded the possessions of both the driver and the passenger. However, fate had its own plans as his weapon became the tool of his own undoing. Fortunately, the other passenger was unharmed.
Commanding Officer for the Clarendon Police Division, Superintendent Carlos Russell, could not confirm at the time whether the suspect was wanted in connection to any other crimes in and around the area. However, he stated that investigations are ongoing.
Robberies in Clarendon have risen by 60 percent for the period January 1st to April 20th, 2024. This represents a total of 24 robberies, up from 15 for the same period last year.
