ZOSO to be lifted in Mount Salem: Ground has broken for a brand new Police station in Mount Salem, St. James.
The new facility which is being built to the tune of 45 million dollars will replace the existing structure located near to the Cornwall Regional Hospital.
The community has been hailed as the blue-eyed-baby for the Government’s Zones of Special Operation Programme, which is expected to be reviewed following the expiration of three years.
Mount Salem was the first ZOSO, declared in September 2017.
Prime Minister Andrew Holness says he is satisfied with the improved citizen security in the community and social intervention strategies.
However, he explains that the security force continues to have challenges in Denham Town, West Kingston which, was declared a ZOSO just one month later in October 2017.
While mum on the details, the Prime Minister says more ZOSOs will be declared soon.
In 2019, the Government said that it is closely monitoring 20 crime hot spots across the island.
However, since then there have been more States of Public Emergency which have been criticized as unconstitutional.
