An illegal slaughterhouse was uncovered at Big Lane, Central Village, St. Catherine, around 7 AM on Friday, December 20, 2024, during a joint operation between the St. Catherine North and South police divisions.
Over 40 goat carcasses and several live animals were found in the makeshift facility, along with equipment used for illegal operations, including counterfeit public health stamps.
The operation led to the arrest of eight individuals, who face charges under the Larceny and Public Health Acts. The carcasses were believed to be stolen, and the equipment used to process them was linked to fraudulent activities.
Present on the scene were ACP (acting) Christopher Phillips in charge of Area 5, SSP (acting) Hopton Nicholson, member of the St Catherine North Praedeal Larceny team, St. Catherine South operations team, and the Public Health Authority.
Investigations are ongoing.
