Targeting debris entering the Kingston Harbor, Representatives of Ocean Cleanup an international company that has partnered with Grace Kennedy and Clean Harbor Jamaica Limited, are focused on addressing the issue of garbage polluting the harbor.
Mayor of Kingston Senator Delroy Williams, says the project initially started with three gullies, using the barrier technology, which traps the garbage and then extracts it.
The groups met with the municipality and are now moving forward to expand from three to twelve gullies stretched across the space. Mayor Williams notes that plans are also in place for developmental works to take place in Sandy Gully.
He intends to continue planning with the Ministry of Local Government, with further cleaning being necessary in some of the gullies before construction can begin.
