Minister of Local Government Desmond Mckenzie says the government intends to invest in the renovation of several markets across the country to facilitate the huge population of vendors.
He says the deplorable market conditions vendors face have pushed them outside of the markets.
During his presentation at the reopening of the Stony Hill Market in St Andrew on Thursday, he disclosed several markets across the country will be renovated to remove vendors from the streets to restore decency in town centres.
He adds millions will be invested to repair the Charles Gordon Market in St James among others in both corporate and rural areas.
Lauding the initiative, Mayor of Kingston Delroy Williams says renovation of municipal infrastructure is important to boost the local economy.
