The National Works Agency (NWA) will be closing a section of the Howard Cooke Bridge in Montego Bay, St. James to effect repairs. The work was set to begin Wednesday but was pushed back for a few more days. Motorists will have to adjust to traffic changes for a little over a month.
The northbound leg of the Howard Cooke Bridge in the vicinity of Harmony Beach Park, in Montego Bay, St. James, will be closed for six (6) weeks as the National Works Agency (NWA) conducts repairs. This is expected in the coming days. Community Relations Officer for the National Works Agency Western Region, Janel Ricketts says the expansion joints on the bridge are defective and require immediate replacement. She adds this involves the demolition and reconstruction of the concrete abutment to the bridge. Ricketts says the concrete works will require a curing period of twenty-eight (28) days before they can move to install the expansion joints.
In the interim, Ricketts is encouraging motorists to use alternative routes to bypass the city centre.
