A progress report on the Highway 2000 project was given at the Manchester Chamber of Commerce monthly meeting recently.
Environmental Manager at the National Road Operating and Constructing Company, NROC Erol Mortley, says the highway will provide better flow in traffic and a catalyst to service the economy.
He also has hopes the highway will lead to a reduction in crime and unemployment, by providing a connection to more resources.
Adding motorist’s safety is of the utmost importance, he laments the North-South Highway is recording some of the lowest fatality rates in previous years.
Mortley says because of financial limitations the project has had to undergo phase constructions.
Nonetheless, it is scheduled to be completed in the coming months.
The construction plans for the highway, which started in 1999 focuses on connecting Kingston, North Coast and Montego Bay.
