Minister with responsibility for the National Identification System (NIDS), Floyd Green has announced timelines for the rollout of the system expected to revolutionize how citizens trade, live and tackle crime in years to come.
With the first enrollment centre for the National Identification System to be handed over this week at the Central Sorting Office in Kingston Minister Floyd Green says things are moving apace for the pilot.
Addressing the Post Cabinet media briefing, the Minister says an agreement is in place to use some 24 available postal services as enrollment centres once the pilot extends to the rest of the country.
Green says the regulations for the pilot are being finalized and will be brought for public input before being tabled in parliament.
He notes the National Identification System will also have an oversight body and has already received the buy-in of the banks as partners.
The Minister says members of the Diaspora can engage with the National Identification System starting next year where they will be able to apply for access with certain conditions.
