On Wednesday, the National Water Commission launched the Mona Reservoir Floating Solar Project. The launch comes as the government leans to renewable energy sources, to reduce cost and carbon emissions.
Prime Minister Andrew Holness, in his address, urged Jamaicans to build resilience to shocks, while taking the environment into consideration.

This as the National Water Commission launched its Mona Reservoir Floating Solar Project, to reduce its carbon footprint among other benefits.
Prime Minister Holness reiterates Jamaicans must adopt a forward-leaning posture in modern development.
He is insisting the National Water Commission must not be allowed to become non-operational because of bankruptcy.
Holness says the government has taken measures to stabilize the commission, including water loss reduction efforts.
Meanwhile, Member of Parliament for St Andrew Eastern, Fayval Williams, says the project launch signals innovation.
She says the Education Ministry will be piloting renewable energy in 30 of the nation’s schools.
Meantime, government Senator Matthew Samuda, is highlighting the importance of the renewable energy project that’s expected to cut the national water commission’s expenditure by nearly a billion dollars.
Government Senator Matthew Samuda, says for the government to truly transform and rebuild the National Water Commission, it must transform how energy is consumed.
The senator says it must also lower its overhead costs.
Senator Samuda says Jamaica is seen as a leader in the fight against climate change, as the government aims to utilize its local energy sources as part of its vision 2030.
He also says the 50-kilowatt solar system that was launched in June 2022, is already bearing fruit.
Meanwhile, Energy Minister, Daryl Vaz, commended the National Water Commission for executing the solar system project.
He stresses energy and water are essential for the public as the demand for potable water increases.
