The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) and Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) have launched a major joint operation, ‘Operation Relentless II’, aimed at targeting criminal gangs and gangsters involved in violent criminal activities and other aspects of the illegal trading of guns across the island. The operation is also targeting lottery scamming and narcotics activities which are the alleged source of funds for the illicit trade.
The operation was launched on Friday, September 23 with the primary focus being on the Divisions with the highest rate of violent crimes. Ongoing conflicts among criminals in the scamming underworld and internal conflicts within criminal organizations over illegal firearms and funds obtained illegally account for some of the recent violent crimes.
The operations come in light of the new Firearms Act that is expected to bring harsher penalties for possession and use of illegal guns.
