The people of Lluidas Vale and Pleasant Hill in North West, St Catherine are left with renewed hope following a visit from the Opposition Leader Mark Golding and his team Friday.
The tour comes on the heels of news that residents were being evicted by the state after living and earning from the lands for more than eighty (80) years.
Hope, a feeling that many residents of Pleasant Hill had lost when CVM Live visited the area recently. However, the visit of the Opposition Leader and his team Friday to find a reasonable solution to their eviction woes has brought renewed hope.
The mood was different as the People’s National Party members met with the residents. These residents were hoping for regularization but instead were met with eviction letters set to take effect in December.
Member of Parliament, Hugh Graham says most residents here farm sugar cane and sell to the worthy park estate for sugar and rum. He says they earn very little at times and depend heavily on the lands for survival.
Graham notes there was a lot of trauma among the residents and even the children who feared they would be thrown out of their homes and he too is now hopeful for the dwellers.
