The Opposition’s Dr. Angela Brown Burke is again calling for Labour Minister Karl Samuda’s resignation.
The call comes after investigations revealed Jamaican farm-workers in Canada were in fact, being mistreated, despite the Minister’s initial dismissal of the claims.
After several complaints filed by Jamaicans in Canada on the Farm Work Program, Opposition Spokesperson on Labour and Social Security Dr. Angela Brown Burke is again lashing the government for allegedly neglecting the cries of the people.
Labour Minister Karl Samuda recently rubbished the workers’ claims of mistreatment, reportedly noting on his visits, he observed excellent working conditions.
Dr. Brown Burke however notes there is proof that the workers’ complaints are true. She questions the minister’s alleged negligence in the matter.
She says while she is pleased investigations have been launched into the complaints, it is simply not enough. The Spokesperson says she expected better from some of the liaison officers who represent the workers. She is again calling for the minister’s resignation.
