Election 2020

JLP Secures Historic and Convincing Victory

A historic and convincing victory  – The people have spoken…and the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) has slaughtered the People’s National Party (PNP) in the 18th parliamentary election.

A preliminary count has the JLP with 48 of the 63 seats, leaving the PNP with 15 seats. Major upsets were created by JLP newcomers who have unseated incumbents in safe seats.

Leader of the Jamaica Labour Party, Andrew Holness gave his victory speech at the party headquarters on 20 Belmont Road, Kingston 5.  And as the country is plunged into multiple crises, with the JLP’s  Victory, the Prime Minister is calling on the opposition to assist in the rebuilding of the country.

The Peoples National Party, Campaign Director Phillip Paulwell was at the People’s National Headquarters addressing reporters. He says a possible factor that led to the party being badly beaten is a result of the known division in the party.

This is the first consecutive victory for the Jamaica Labour Party since 1967.

Up to September 7, 2020, the Electoral Office of Jamaica reported the recounting for 48 of the 63 constituencies have been completed. The preliminary counting saw a 49-14 seat win for the Jamaica Labour Party on Thursday, September 3.
