Election 2020

Major Upsets for the PNP in the 2020 General Election

Major Upsets For the People’s National Party (PNP) in the 2020 General Election – and a lot of surprises in this general election, as a number of the Jamaica Labour Party’s (JLP) new candidates have managed to unseat longstanding Member of Parliaments of the People’s National Party.

The Jamaica Labour Party will be representing the majority of the island in Gordon House. In a shocking turn of events, Manchester Central is now stained green with newcomer Rhoda Moy Crawford defeating the PNP’s Peter Bunting. In central Kingston, Donovan Williams overpowered Imani Duncan Price.

St. Ann North West Krystal Lee defeated Dr. Dayton Campbell. Over in St. Thomas Eastern, Dr. Fenton Ferguson has been swept out by Dr. Michelle Charles.

Up in Northern Clarendon, a major upset, Dwight Sibblies has unseated the PNP’s Horace Dalley. Another major upset is in the St. Catherine North West constituency, Newton Amos defeated Hugh Graham for the PNP.

St. James southern, has been under the PNP’s belt for thirty years, but now Mayor Homer Davis has claimed that seat.

In Trelawny Northern, Tova Hamilton has cut short the reign of Victor Wright; and in neighboring Western Hanover, Tamika Davis has stomped out Ian Hayles. The JLP did a clean sweep in Westmoreland, taking all three constituencies from the PNP.

Overall a majority of the JLP’s new candidates have come out on top. On Election Day, September 3, 2020, Opposition Leader Dr. Peter Phillips told our news team that he will be stepping down as party president and retiring from politics if not victorious.

Up to September 7, 2020, the Electoral Office of Jamaica reported the recounting for 48 of the 63 constituencies have been completed. The preliminary counting saw a 49-14 seat win for the Jamaica Labour Party on Thursday, September 3.
