St. Ann South Western is one of the constituencies where a showdown is expected on Election Day. Minister Zavia Mayne is seeking re-election while the People’s National Party (PNP) Candidate Valenton Wint is hoping to unseat him.
Jamaicans will be choosing which party they believe should form the next government in a matter of days. Southwestern St. Ann is a battleground seat that is expected to play a role in determining which party will claim victory on the night of September three.
The seat has been identified as a must-win by both main parties. In the 2016 General Election, the Jamaica Labour Party’s (JLP) Zavia Mayne defeated the PNP’s Keith Walford by three hundred and thirty nine votes.
This time around it is PNP’s Valenton Wint who is challenging the JLP incumbent Zavia Mayne. Wint is not new to the political landscape as he went up against Minister Audley Shaw in North Eastern Manchester during the 2011 and 2016 general elections, he lost on both occasions.
CVM LIVE contacted Zavia Mayne for an interview, but was told he would not speak with the media. However his supporters tell CVM LIVE that Mayne has done in a single term what other representatives failed to do over the past fifteen years.
