President of the United Nations(UN) General Assembly Abdulla Shahid has arrived in Jamaica and was welcomed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs led by Senator Kamina Johnson Smith as well as Members of the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Jamaica. Mr. Shahid who is also the Foreign Minister of the Maldives has according to Senator Johnson Smith, effectively elevated issues critical to Jamaica and other small island developing states, including climate action and resilience as well as the empowerment of women.
Shortly after his arrival the United Nations General Assembly President participated in a high-level youth-based discussion. It is his first visit to Jamaica. More details here:
