Fear and trepidation, according to Opposition Senator Lambert Brown, are two lingering emotions for Jamaicans as crime and violence continue to plague the society.
Speaking at the State of the Nation Debate on Friday, Senator Brown says the country is speedily heading in the wrong direction.
He says no place in Jamaica can be described as safe, noting the parishes that were once peaceful are experiencing a major increase in crime and violence.
The Senator says the scourge of crime remains a deterrence for foreign direct investors.
Meanwhile, he questioned when the new Firearms Bill will be made law. He also questions whether the government will execute its promised education campaign in relation to the legislation.
Brown says they must act swiftly as illegal guns are still the main tool for murders in Jamaica.
