Senator Don Wehby in his State of the Nation Debate in the Senate Friday noted that Jamaica is well on its way to a full economic recovery. He highlighted growth in the space for digital businesses, which was accelerated as a result of the conditions of the pandemic.
Senator Wehby alluded to an investment policy brought to the house in 2016 which he notes will be a lucrative opportunity for the country. He says it has been recently approved by the cabinet.
Another area of significance highlighted by the Senator was food security. He says Jamaica needs to cut its import bill from one billion US dollars to at least five hundred million by 2030.
Senator Wehby who is also Group Chief Executive Officer at Gracekennedy Limited, says to meet this target, a proper structure must be implemented that will be conducive for businesses.
