Following the death of Kathlyn Jump in Trelawny in a suspected dog attack the family is currently awaiting a post-mortem to determine if the 73 year old woman was in fact mauled to death by dogs.
Cvm Live visited the community of Vanzie Land in Trelawny where the death occurred, her sister who lives in the same community was being consoled by Bishop of the Faith International Harvest Church, Delton Collins as she struggled to hold back tears.
Though the date for the official post mortem is not yet known to the family, she suspects that if dogs were responsible, they belonged to someone known within the community. Remembering her sister as jovial and kind the woman is appealing to the authorities to be more proactive in preventing situations like these. In a separate incident on the same morning of the discovery of Kathlyn Jump’s body, a St James man was also reportedly fatally mauled by dogs.
Under the dog’s liability for attacks legislation, 2020 dog owners can be liable for animal attacks or harm done to persons. A fine of five hundred thousand to three million dollars or imprisonment of six months to fifteen years can be imposed for a dog that causes death or injuries to a person. More details here:
