Murder and mental health have long been an issue in the parish of Trelawny. That’s according to the Trelawny Police Division.
Following the latest murder in Clark’s Town on Tuesday, there’s a renewed call for residents to respond to mental health challenges.
According to the commanding officer for the Trelawny Police Division Superintendent Kirk Ricketts, 54-year-old Hyacinth Ellison was stabbed to death at her home, by her son believed to be of unsound mind.
He says the murder brings the tally to 14 compared to 15 in the same period of 2019 with major crimes still below the figures for the same year.
He’s urging the families of individuals believed to be mentally challenged to seek medical attention.
However, CVM LIVE spoke with the sister of the deceased who says the family sought help from the police but to no avail.
