Why Do Jamaicans Love Brazil?

Brazil, as football nation has traditionally found massive favour among Jamaicans, who are seemingly fixated on their brand of football. The south American giants bowed into action on Thursday, and activities in Jamaica virtually came to a halt.

It is understood that no murder was recorded in Jamaica on Thursday, and while the jury is still out as to what may have influenced that welcomed news, it coincided on a day the country’s favourite team, Brazil,  played its first world cup match. 

But why this overwhelming fascination in Jamaica with Brazil? The largest country in both South America and Latin America, the most successful national team in the FIFA World Cup, being crowned winner five times 1958, 1962, 1970, 1994 and 2002.

Brazil has had a history of producing some of the world’s greatest players, including arguably the greatest of them all Pele. And there is a general view that Brazil will go all the way in this world cup.
