The recent ruling by the Revenue Court has put squarely on the agenda the matter of who is an employee and what might be the difference between an employee and an independent contract worker. The ruling has serious implications for those who are designated contract workers and asks for further discussion into employer obligations even within the context of contract work. We assess the ruling and the potential implications with the President of Jamaica Manufacturers and Exporters Association, John Mahfood and the General Secretary of Union Clerical Administrative and Supervisory Employees, John Levy.
