Future Political Vision of the People’s National Party

There has been a lot of recent happenings in the political arena in Jamaica and political vision has been a major concern. Leader of the Opposition and President of the People’s National Party, (PNP) Mark Golding, joined our Panel Discussion to share on happenings and the state of the PNP.

The recent reaction in the opinion polls that found Prime Minister Andrew Holness to be doing better than Opposition leader Mark Golding, in a response Golding says prior to September last year, he was not a national figure and personally he had no real aspiration for leadership, however from persuasion he stepped up to the plate and was ultimately successful. He noted that the process and goal is now for Jamaicans to become familiar with him, but noted that due to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic this is a bit difficult as certain protocols have to be observed.

Regarding the democratic socialism philosophy of the party and its relevance in today’s Jamaican society, the People’s National Party leader said it is in the party’s constitution and noted that the PNP has been a socialist movement since the early formation of the party, however this will vary over time. He noted that the political vision of the PNP see the people at the center and policies that will uplift those that have been at a disadvantage.
