Helping the Homless in Jamaica

It is estimated that Jamaica has a homeless population of between 2,000-3,000 people, factors such as mental health, drug abuse, and increased economic hardship as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic lead to anecdotal accounts of up to a 300% increase in the local homeless population in certain geographical areas over the past 2 years.

In this Panel Discussion, we explore the growing phenomenon of homelessness and Jamaica’s approach towards it, with Victor Hemmings, Special Projects Manager in the Office of the Public Defender, and Reverend Father Hayden Augustine from Brothers of the Poor. Watch the discussion below:
