Jury Trials Suspended Due To Covid-19

With Jury trials now suspended as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, a number of prominent Defence Attorneys have raised stern objections to any attempt to halt Jury trials and replace them with trial by Judge alone, known as Bench Trial. They argue that Jury trials are a fundamental citizen right. However, Chief Justice Bryan Sykes said the law makes provision for the use of Bench Trials.

To explore the issue, we are joined by Andrea Martin Swaby, Acting Senior Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions and Defence Attorney Peter Champagnie QC.
