Regulations intended to establish a competency-based system for appointment to public bodies, the establishment of term limits, improved transparency, and methods of addressing conflicts of interest, have seemingly stalled in the house.
Expressing disappointment with the lack of urgency displayed by the Government and the length of time it has taken for these regulations to progress through the approval process, in a release, the Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica, (PSOJ) stated that even “the perception of corruption only serves to fan the flames of increasing mistrust in our society.”
Camille Facey, Chair of the PSOJ Corporate Governance Committee and Attorney-at-Law, and Jeanette Calder, Executive Director of the Jamaica Accountability Meter Portal, (JAMP) and anti-corruption campaigner joined the CVM Live Panel Discussion to share on the topic of the governance of public bodies.
