The honour of the Order of National Hero may be conferred on any person who was born in Jamaica. It can also be offered to anyone who was a citizen of Jamaica and who gave distinguished service to the country. The award was created in 1965 and saw 7 Jamaicans being conferred the award of National Hero.
But can other Jamaicans be conferred this honour and what would the process be? Additionally, who would qualify and who would make the decision?
In this Panel Discussion we discuss the National Heroes and National Honours more generally. Joining us are Professor Verene Shepherd, Academic Professor of Social History at the University of the West Indies. As well as Cultural Ambassador, Professor Opal Palmer Adisa.
