Defending champions Portmore United have opened up a five-point lead atop the Red Stripe Premier League’s (RSPL) standings following a 1-0 away victory against Arnett Gardens at the Anthony Spaulding Complex on Match Day 21 on Wednesday.

Donnegy Fer scored the lone goal in the 72nd minute and the three points pushed Portmore United to 39 points from 20 games, five ahead of second-place Waterhouse, who have played a game less.

Arnett Gardens remained in fourth place on 31 points, two points behind Tivoli Gardens, which moved from seventh to fifth courtesy of a 2-0 victory over Humble Lion at the Edward Seaga Complex.

Junior McGregor scored both goals for Tivoli Gardens. McGregor opened his account in the 19th minute and closed the double in the 75th minute.

Humble Lion remained in eighth place with 24 points from 20 games.

Meanwhile, promoted Dunbeholden FC scored an important 2-0 home victory over Reno at the Frome Sports Complex in their battle to get out of the relegation zone.

With the victory Dunbeholden moved from the bottom of the table as a result of goal difference. They have joined the other team in the relegation zone – last-place Montego Bay United – on 16 points.

Orette Richards (11th and 70th minutes) scored two goals for Dunbeholden, while Lorenzo Dibidad (34th) got the other.

In the day’s other game, Harbour View edged UWI FC 1-0 at the Mona Bowl courtesy of a 38th minute strike from Shemar Naire.

The victory moved the ‘Stars of the East’ from 10th to ninth place with 23 point.
