In the lead-up to Sunday’s presidential election for the St Catherine Football Association, candidate Jason McKay alleges constitutional violations by incumbent Elaine Walker Brown.
Jason McKay, presidential candidate in the St Catherine Football Association’s upcoming election to be held on Sunday is claiming that Elaine Walker Brown is violating the constitution by allegedly breaching several rules in an effort to hold an election that is not genuine.
The constitution guarantees that an extra ordinary meeting, if requested by 1/3 of all clubs prior to an election to deal with issues relating to the election, then it must be held. This request McKay insists was made from June and he alleges that she has not held this meeting despite the 21 day moratorium.
The rules state that any member of any club can vote however he says she has restricted voting to only executive members.
The rules also state that the accounts have to be circulated weeks before the election however the presidential challenger says this has not been done.
McKay notes that based on the rules the only clubs in good standing are allowed to vote, however he says she also waived this rule.
He told CVM Sports if she is allowed to hold this election without following and complying to the rules, she would be giving the impression that she is above them, and that the Jamaica Football Federation is unable to control their own senior officials.
He reasons, “this high-handed, and despotic behavior is bad for football and undermines the professionalism of the sport in general”.
Dr McKay explains that “there is no other sport in Jamaica that could be allowed to flout the rules like this”.
He says the damage to the sport of football in Jamaica will extend beyond St.Catherine. He went further adding if this malpractice continues the Saint Catherine FA will be made an example for the rest of Jamaica on how to de democratize the sport of football in other parishes.
