Xavier Gilbert has been appointed as the head coach for the Senior Women’s National Team by the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF). He will lead the team in the upcoming Concacaf Women’s Gold Cup Qualifiers on October 25 and 29, where they will face Panama and Guatemala, respectively. A squad of players will be announced shortly.
In addition to Gilbert’s appointment, a full technical support staff has been assembled. The JFF has also reduced ticket prices for the home game on October 29 at the National Stadium, making it more accessible to fans. Grandstand tickets are now $3000, bleachers are $1000, and students with ID can enter the bleachers for $500. Children under 10 can attend the bleachers for free with a guardian.
This coaching change comes after the JFF did not renew former head coach Lorne Donaldson’s contract in September, despite the Reggae Girlz achieving the historic feat of qualifying for the FIFA Women’s World Cup twice, a first for any English-speaking Caribbean country.
