Detailed COVID-19 Vaccination Distribution Plan Outlined

A detailed COVID-19 vaccination distribution plan was revealed earlier today by the Minister in a Virtual Press Conference.

Minister of Health and Wellness, Dr. Christopher Tufton, says the Government plans to identify and source a total of four million doses of vaccines by March 2022 which is expected to inoculate 65% of the population.

The island will receive a donation of 50,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine from the Government of India, by Thursday of this week.

Dr. Tufton says immediately after the vaccines arrive, inoculation will begin.

The vaccination population has been split into three phases.

Each phase determines who will the vaccine.

Phase 1 – Vulnerable Groups

Phase 2 – Person Essential to Economic Activity

Phase 3 – The General Population

Administering of the vaccines will be done on an appointment basis, in which individuals will need to book an appointment five days before receiving the vaccine.

Currently the Public Health Departments across the island are reaching out to the different groups.

Approximately fifty-six vaccination centres have been identified across the island and at each centres there will be two or more vaccinators who will each be seeking to vaccinate six vaccinations within an hour.

The centres will operate for five hours per during the day.

Upon entering the vaccination centre, there are five stages in the process: registration , counseling, vaccine administration, observation and documentation.

This is expected to take approximately 35 to 52 minutes.
